Mounjaro is the brand name under which tirzepatide is sold. It is an agonist of the GLP-1 receptor as well as a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).

Tirzepatide mimics both the GIP and GLP-1 hormones, according to Trusted Source. Additionally, the GIP hormone can initiate the production of insulin and sensations of fullness.

Tirzepatide may therefore provide an additional push to weight loss.

The FDA has approved semaglutide, also known as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus, to treat type 2 diabetes.

As a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, semaglutide reduces feelings of hunger by acting as a GLP-1 hormone substitute.

The GLP-1 hormone that is released by your digestive tract after eating causes the body to produce more insulin. Additionally, it can communicate fullness to the brain.
